The maxim of Napoleon, “divide and rule”, is perfectly applicable to the art of delegating. Delegate and rule.
Objective
As a leader, you have to be able to delegate work effectively, because you cannot do it all yourself. A true leader has no problem delegating to other people when needed.
To Do
One of the most important questions to answer when you delegate a task, is ‘How much control do I want over the task? The answer to this question will drive how you delegate the task, how often you meet with the person doing the work, and what level of detail you want to know about.
Action Plan
- Step1.- Ask yourself: "What is it that only I can do it?" Make a list of the tasks you could delegate and write them down.
- Step 2.- The tasks that you consider more complicated divide them into other subtasks
- Step 3.- You can start delegating the simplest tasks so that you will not feel the sensation of a loss of control.
- Step 4.- When you gain more confidence you can increase the responsibility or difficulty of the tasks you delegate. For a leader it is sometimes difficult to delegate for those who can start by practicing this for two weeks
